Dolls by Contemporary Dollmakers
Focusing on dollmakers in Michigan, slides and actual dolls will illustrate techniques and styles of dollmakers working primarily in the textile medium $175

Dolls from Handwoven Fabrics
Don't waste those scraps or that tiny bit of woven end and threads of your warp! Slides and actual pieces will give you ideas for using your hadwoven fabric and, especially, those precious bits to make your own unique dolls. $175

Make a Face!--and Hands, Too
A slide presentation with actual pieces illustrates ways to make faces and hands for fabric dolls. if time allows, a short hands-on session gives an opportunity to draw and paint faces on fabric, and gain ideas fo many ways to achieve expression with unusual techniques. $175

Surface Design on Fabric
Examples of fabris that have been printed, painted, airbrushed, stamped, stenciled, dye discharged, photo transferred, machine embroidered, and embellished are shown. $175

Photo Transfer Techniques for Fabric

Do you have a favorite family photo that you would love to include in a quilt or doll you're making? There are numerous techniques available to transfer images to your textile piece. The wide range of possibilities will be discussed as well as many samples and finished pieces shown. $175

A slide/lecture presentation on Jennifer Gould's progression from earliest tapestries, the development of her work in dolls, to her most recent pieces. Actual pieces as well as many dolls from her collection will be on hand. $175


Workshops

Designing Dolls
Do you have great ideas for your own uniquely designed dolls but you don't know how to go about puttingthose ideas into reality? For the adventuresome---no patternerns are handed out! Through preassignment sheets and on-on-one talks in class, learn how to develop those ideas into 3-dimensional shapes from patterns. Also learn about special fabric usage and embellishments. Participants will produce at least one of their own uniquely designed dolls. A three-day workshop includes drawing/painting faces, making 3-D needle-sculpted faces, and hands. Basic sewing machine skills and a sewing machine for every participant required. Two or three 7-hour days. Maximum 13 participants. $350/day plus other requirements.*

Dolls from Handwoven Fabrics
Don't throw away those scraps or that tiny bit of woven end and threads of your warp! Save it, or weave extra, to bring and make a doll uniquely your own. Also, learn ideas to design and weave dolls, as well as using those little bits of hard work you must can't stand to throw away. One 6 to 7-hour day. $350/day plus other requirements.*

Make a Face--and Hands!
In a one day workshop, participants practice drawing, painting, and embroidering faces for fabric dolls. If time allows, a short time is spent sampling photo transfer techniques for faabric. In a two- or three-day workslhop, participants go on to making 3-D needle-sculpted faces, and hands (with fingers!), and how to attach those to fabric doll bodies. Or pre-arrange to study certian types of facemaking and hands. Basic sewing machine skills and machine required for each participant in the two- and three-day workshop. One to three days. $350/day plus other requirements.* Materials fee per participant.

Fabric Collage
Enjoy a fun, relaxing and exciting time taking fabric to make fabric by putting together textile pieces with hand embroidery, freeform machine embroidery, basic machine stitches or your machine's decorative stitches. Use handwoven fabric, felt, antique kimono, surface designed fabrics, or commercial fabrics. One to two 7-hour days. $350/day plus other requirements.*

Surface Design on Fabric: Printing and Painting Learn to make your own stamps and stencils to create surface designs on any fabric. Also resists and an airbrush-like technique will be tried using textile paints to produce exciting patterned fabrics. One to three days. $350/day plus other requirements.* Materials fee per participant.

Surface Design on Fabric: Embellishing with the Sewing Machine Explore the many exciting ways to add surface imagery using the sewing machine. Free-form machine embroidery to fabric manipulation and embellishment will open up unimaginable possibilitiies for combinations of designs. One to three days. $350/day plus other requirments.* Materials fee per participant.

Jennifer's Doll Patterns Using one of Jennifer's published patterns, create at least one doll of your very own. Materials fee for pattern; kit also available. One day. $350/day plus other requirements.*
