Fabric Making and the Stitched Mark: Contemporary Embroidery

Designing Dolls
Do you have great ideas for your own uniquely designed dolls but you don’t know how to go about putting those ideas into reality? For the adventuresome—no patterns are handed out! Through preassignment sheets and one-on-one talks in class, learn how to develop those ideas into 3-dimensional shapes from patterns. Also learn about special fabric usage and embellishments. Participants will produce at least one of their own uniquely designed dolls. A three-day workshop includes drawing/painting faces, making 3-D needle-sculpted faces, and hands. Basic sewing machine skills and a sewing machine for every participant required. Two or three 7-hour days. Maximum 13 participants. Contact Jennifer for Per Day fees for groups and individuals; plus other requirements*

Dolls from Handwoven Fabrics
Don’t throw away those scraps or that tiny bit of woven end and threads of your warp! Save it, or weave extra, to bring and make a doll uniquely your own. Also, learn ideas to design and weave dolls, as well as using those little bits of hard work you must can’t stand to throw away. One 6 to 7-hour day. Contact Jennifer for Per Day fees for groups and individuals; plus other requirements*

Improvisational Fabric Collage
Enjoy a fun, relaxing and exciting time by using your fabric stash and putting together textile pieces with hand embroidery. Use handwoven fabric, felt, antique kimono and sari pieces, sheers, hand printed and surface designed fabrics, or commercial fabrics. One to two 7-hour days. Contact Jennifer for Per Day fees for groups and individuals; plus other requirements*

Surface Design on Fabric: Printing and Painting
In the one-day workshop, students learn to create surface designs on any type of fabric (natural— cotton, linen, silk, etc., knits, and synthetics) using resists, airbrush-like technique, stamps, stencils, leaf-prints with high quality textile paints to produce exciting patterned fabrics. In the two-day workshop, students will have the chance to make their own stamps and then create their unique fabric. Contact Jennifer for Per Day fees for groups and individuals; plus other requirements.* Materials fee per participant.

Monoprinting:  Printing and Painting One-of-a-Kind Fabric
Using a plexiglass plate and textile paints to explore surface design techniques, students experiment with an unending process to create exciting patterns both amorphous and detailed.  These printed fabrics are wonderful for quilting, embroidery, dollmaking, garments and more. The fabric can be handwoven, commercial, or the student’s dyed, printed or already embellished work. Stamps, stencils, leaves, paint brushes, Q-tips, water sprayer bottles and more can be used to produce colorful layered work.  Synthetic as well as natural fabrics of all types can be printed. One to two 7-hour days. Contact Jennifer for Per Day fees for groups and individuals; plus other requirements*

*Other Requirements Transportation/mileage (at current IRS rate), food, and lodging.
